UNITOR @ Sardistance2020: Combining Transformer-based Architectures and Transfer Learning for Robust Stance Detection

    Get PDF
This paper describes the UNITOR system that participated to the Stance Detection in Italian tweets (Sardistance) task within the context of EVALITA 2020. UNITOR implements a transformer-based architecture whose accuracy is improved by adopting a Transfer Learning technique. In particular, this work investigates the possible contribution of three auxiliary tasks related to Stance Detection, i.e., Sentiment Detection, Hate Speech Detection and Irony Detection. Moreover, UNITOR relies on an additional dataset automatically downloaded and labeled through distant supervision. The UNITOR system ranked first in Task A within the competition. This confirms the effectiveness of Transformer-based architectures and the beneficial impact of the adopted strategies.

    442. LV Expressing MR Reporter Genes Allows In Vivo Monitoring of Stem Cell Gene Therapy

Somatic stem cells (SSC) have raised interest because of their therapeutic potential in both cell-based and gene therapy applications. Towards this goal, tracking the fate of either delivered cells or of genetically modified endogenous cells is of utmost importance. Diverse imaging approaches are available for cell tracking and among these MRI shows a greater resolution and allows direct anatomic correlation and long-term studies of dynamic cell migration on living animals. Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) has been used to label SSC in vitro and to make them detectable in vivo upon transplantation. However, major limitations of this approach are the progressive dilution of the contrast media among cell progeny and the need for ex vivo SPIO loading. We thus explored an alternative strategy based on the combination of lentiviral vectors (LV), which efficiently transduce SSC both ex vivo and in vivo and allow long-term expression in their progeny, and MR reporter genes, able to increase iron uptake and accumulation into different cell types

Integrated frequency comb source of heralded single photons

    Get PDF
We report an integrated photon pair source based on a CMOS-compatible microring resonator that generates multiple, simultaneous, and independent photon pairs at different wavelengths in a frequency comb compatible with fiber communication wavelength division multiplexing channels (200 GHz channel separation) and with a linewidth that is compatible with quantum memories (110 MHz). It operates in a self-locked pump configuration, avoiding the need for active stabilization, making it extremely robust even at very low power levels

Synthesis and evaluation of new tripeptide phosphonate inhibitors of MMP-8 and MMP-2

The phosphotryptophan derivative l-Pro-l-Leu-l-(P)Trp(OH)2 (2b) was reported as the first example of left-hand-side1 phosphonate inhibitor of MMP-8. Its uncommon mode of binding to MMP-8 was mainly ascribed to the presence of the proline residue in P3. Ten new analogues of 2b were obtained by replacement of the aminoterminal l-Pro with aminoacid residues bearing small side chains. Most of the new analogues show an increase of affinity for MMP-2 and MMP-8, and different profiles of selectivity. Computer simulations were performed to explain the effects of substitutions on the preferred mode of binding. They reveal that most of the new analogues are probably accommodated in the right, rather than left-hand side of MMP-8 active site. © 2005 Elsevier SAS. All rights reserved

Core and Metro Networks - Chapter 4: Enabling Technologies

    No full text
The management and deployment of efficient networks, particularly for broadband services, is the result of many brilliant inventions and discoveries in the optical and telecommunication fields. This chapter discusses the overall basic point-to-point fiber optic transmission system: the optical transmitters, the optical receivers, the fiber optic cable, the optical amplifiers (OAs), the optical filters, and multiplexers. It introduces some information about the characteristics of laser diodes (LDs) used in directly modulated optical transmitters and the electronic circuits to drive them. A brief description of the various components used in optical transmission, such as lasers and light-emitting diodes (LEDs), is also provided

Self-reported hypertension, dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia management by Italian Internal Medicine Units: A national survey of the FADOI Study Group in Cardiovascular Medicine

    No full text
The aim of this study was to evaluate the management practices of internal medicine clinicians for patients with cardiovascular risk factors, with particular respect to treatment thresholds, medication choices and target goals. A sample of internists - representatives of Internal Medicine Units (IMUs) from all the regions in Italy - were identified by the cardiovascular medicine study group of the Italian Internal Medicine FADOI (Federazione delle Associazioni dei Dirigenti Ospedalieri Internisti) Society and invited to fill out a questionnaire about hypertension, dyslipidemia and hyperuricemia. From the 101 questionnaires collected, it was found that despite large heterogeneity between IMUs in terms of patient management and adherence to guidelines, internists were experts in the management of patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors and associated comorbidities. We hope that these data prompt the internal medicine community to consider the value of producing shared, real-world guidelines on the management of cardiovascular disease
